How this planner works
The planner chains overnight bases along road corridors we have route guides for. Distances and direct drive times are taken from those guides (derived from standard car routing when each guide was built) and are shown with a link to the source page. Pacing caps are editorial judgement: they keep travel days honest rather than optimistic. Seasonal high passes (Furka, Grimsel, Susten, Gotthard) show their confirmed 2026 reopening dates from the status guide; the planner avoids closed passes where an alternative exists. Hotel and car links are affiliate links (marked below) — they never change which itinerary you get.
