The fastest sensible line is Down the valley to Wilderswil and Interlaken, A8 to Spiez, then the Kandertal road via Frutigen to Kandersteg, BLS Lötschberg car-shuttle train through the tunnel to Goppenstein, then down the Loetschental to Gampel and the A9/Route 9 Rhone valley to Visp, and up the Mattertal to Täsch. Before you go: There is no road over or under the Bernese Alps on this line — at Kandersteg you drive onto the BLS Lötschberg car-shuttle train to Goppenstein. It cannot be reserved (you queue and drive on), departures are roughly every 30 minutes with extra runs at peak times, and you stay in the car for the roughly 15-minute tunnel crossing.
