Overview

Lucerne to Lauterbrunnen is about 1 hr 15 min of driving without stops. The fastest sensible line is A2 south from Lucerne to Hergiswil, then A8/H8 over the Brünig Pass via Sarnen, Lungern and Meiringen to Interlaken, then Route 221 through Wilderswil to Zweilütschinen and Route 222 up the Weisse Lütschine to Lauterbrunnen. Below: what the drive actually costs you in tolls and time, where it is worth stopping, and what to know before you set off.

Before you go: Wengen and Mürren, the two villages on the shoulders above Lauterbrunnen, have no road access at all — you cannot drive up to either. Leave the car in Lauterbrunnen and take the Wengernalpbahn rack railway (about 14 minutes to Wengen, roughly 40 services a day) or the cableway for Mürren.
