Overview

Füssen to Innsbruck is about 1 hr 45 min of driving without stops. The fastest sensible line is B179 Fernpassstrasse from Füssen across the border via Reutte, Lermoos and Biberwier over the Fernpass (1,216 m) to Nassereith, then B189 Mieminger Strasse to Telfs and the A12 Inntal motorway east into Innsbruck. Below: what the drive actually costs you in tolls and time, where it is worth stopping, and what to know before you set off.

Before you go: Do not let navigation route you off the B179 around a Fernpass queue: from 1 May to 1 November 2026, on every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday between 07:00 and 19:00, Tyrol bans through-traffic from the local rat-run roads in the Reutte district, including the L288 Pinswanger Strasse and the L69 Reuttener Strasse. The B179 itself stays open and is toll-free, but the A12 stretch into Innsbruck needs an Austrian vignette.
