Bolzano to Cortina d'Ampezzo is about 2 hr 15 min of driving without stops. The fastest sensible line is the A22 Brenner motorway north from Bolzano Nord to the Bressanone/Val Pusteria exit, then SS49 through Val Pusteria via Brunico to Dobbiaco/Toblach, then SS51 south over Passo Cimabanche to Cortina. Scenic alternative (about 110 km): SS241 through Val d'Ega over Passo Costalunga, SS48 through Val di Fassa to Canazei, Passo Pordoi, Arabba, Passo Falzarego. Before you go: If you take the scenic 138 km Great Dolomites Road, note that Passo Pordoi (along with Sella, Gardena and Campolongo) is closed to all motor traffic 08:30–16:00 on Sellaronda Bike Day — 6 June and 12 September 2026. On those two dates you must use the A22 / SS49 / SS51 route via Bressanone and Dobbiaco instead.
